The Adhikara Yoga School 200-hr Teacher Training Curriculum
Our curriculum is comprehensive and progressive. It's designed to teach you the skills of lifelong yoga studentship and tools for effective and transformative yoga teaching. We focus on social justice values and a trauma-informed model that inspires growth, healing, and engagement with the inner and outer worlds.
This training will not only help you feel more capable of finding peace and compassion in your own life, it will give you the tools to help others do the same.
Module 1: REjuvenation
Fertile Soil for Your Soul
We'll begin our work together by diving into the philosophy, symbology, language and spirituality of yoga, inviting you into deeper relationship with your core values and your vision for your life. You'll strengthen your personal practice with asana and meditation, explore anatomy and alignment, and learn personalized Ayurvedic techniques. You’ll prepare your inner landscape with rejuvenating self-care practices and self-reflective study so that your soul has the fertile soil it needs for your dreams to take root and grow strong.
When we look within ourselves with honesty and compassion, we're better able to gain perspective on the world around us. In this way we'll utilize the framework of yoga to explore modern day questions and real world challenges. (Weekends 1, 2, 3)
module 2: refinement
Fresh Growth & Expansion
We’ll continue our work together by refining your study and practice of yoga, both on and off the mat. You'll learn pranayama, mantra, and meditation techniques as well as sequencing strategies for both flow and form practices. We'll also take the time to put yoga in historical context with inquiries such including: where did yoga come from, what lineages are present in our teachings, and how can we honor the past and take responsibility for our role in the present and future of the practice?
As your understanding takes root, you'll begin to expand your capacity to teach others, with dynamic practice sessions and supportive feedback. With strong roots extending into fertile soil, your connection to yourself and your ability to teach others begins to flourish. (Weekends 4, 5, 6)
MOdule 3: reverence
The Bright Blossoms of Offering
Finally, you'll begin to offer the fruits of your study to serve others through the practice of teaching yoga. With clear guidance and support from faculty, you'll create sequences and lesson plans, explore different teaching styles, and build confidence facilitating a group of students. We'll practice "basic okayness" and radical self-acceptance as a way of showing up for ourselves during this new growth of taking the seat of the teacher. Even if you don't plan to teach publicly, this module will help you refine your practice, empower your voice, and deepen your self-confidence.
With your steady care and discipline, your growth will extend into the bright blossoms of experience that can help nourish not only your own life but also provide sustenance to your community through your presence and teaching. (Weekends 7, 8, 9)
